culture question:)

Every person has got his/her own image or opinion about practically all the countries.

What do you think about Russia?
What do you associate with Russia?
How do you see Russian people?

Please, leave your comments. It's really interesting to know your opinion:)

I have a special place in my heart for Russia and the people there, after living there for a year. I know before I went to Russia (or Siberia) I heard a lot about tigers, bears, snow and Communism. Now, I think about all the faces of the people I met there and got to know. I think of the fun and/ or crazy experiences I had, rather than the harder times.
I think the Russian people are very kind and compassionate people. I think some have lived hard lives, and yet they perservere. I think they love their country and are devoted to their leaders (mostly). I love to meet and talk with Russians. I think they are very unique in God's eyes.
And what do I associate with Russia? I think of hot tea (in the summer or winter!), furry hats and boots, muddy streets, amazing soups, and of course, Lenin. :)

I have been inexplicably enamored with Russia, Russian history, and Russian literature since I was a young teenager. In college, I asked my advisor/professor if I could do a sort of "homeschool" course in Russian History, and he worked it out for me. I read Russka and came in once a week to talk with him. That was the class!

I have only known one Russian girl, and you can't judge a country of diverse cultures on one person. I have heard that Russians think Americans smile too much, that we are too shallow.

If you look at Russia on Google Earth, it seems so vast, so much space, it amazes me how people live in places like Siberia, I love the onion domes of the churches, I love War and Peace.

I don't really know much about modern Russia, I went to Romania 11 or so years ago and it seems many people there were so happy to be able to embrace faith openly. We had a worship service where they had once held communist government meetings. I want to visit Russia sometime before I die, but everyone says it is too dangerous now...

I don't think that it's dangerous here:) I live in Siberia in the small peaceful beautiful town - Divnogorsk. Here I think that life is good and I believe that it's not so dangerous to travel to Russia.

However living in Moscow (or the western part of RF) might be troublesome since there is lots of acts of terros like practically in every large city.

As for me, I don't think that Americans are shallow as I have some American friends (all of them are christians) and they are SO lovely and deep. I think that Americans smile much as they are very friendly and hospitable:)

I was amazed knowing that you've read Love and Peace! Even Russians can't "overcome" this book:))) Students are usually made to read it and it's too difficult:)Honestly, i haven't read till the end;) I'm glad you like it :)
